I had a bunch of random web stuff I've made over the years sitting in various areas of the website. Most of it inaccessable. So today I decided to consolidate it all into AtomicInternet Xtra. Anything not quite large enough to warranty it's own link I'll throw in Xtra. Now that have a "junk drawer" on my website I've finally satisfied my obsessive compulsive disorder (HA!)

Today I played Starcraft, a game I haven't played in a long time. Myself and about 4 others would play pretty much daily after work almost 3 years ago, sometimes playing till 2:00am when we had to be at work at 9:00am the next day. We all got fairly good and wound up getting bored after mastering it. Eventually, we stopped playing and everyone but me who used to play quit, got let go, or was fired. We had some good times together, but all things change. Yesterday, a current co-worker, Mike Relova, challenged me to a game in it. Remembering how good I thought I was I taunted him all yesterday and today. When it finally came time to play he embarassed me in it. Thinking I figured out his strategy I challenged him again and was beaten even worse! I was dethroned in a game I used to play religiously. After I got over myself, we played co-operatively against the computer and I was amazed. Here was someone who took it to the next level. It was no longer a game, but a science of maximizing resources, production, and attack strategies. Now when I play him I expect to lose, but see how long I can last before utter destruction.

As you can see from the webcam, it snowed today. Alot. I generally don't like winter because everything is dead and the sky is always grey. The exception is when there's snow on the ground and everything is bright, so as contradictory as it seems; I like snow but not winter. The other great advantage of snow is driving. I'm in the small minority that enjoys winter driving. I'm fortunate enough to have a rear-wheel drive truck with a tiny 4-cylinder engine and manual transmission that isn't enough to get me in trouble, but sufficient to allow for powerslides. Snow driving is like getting to be a rally driver without the expensive cars.

I just set one up in my front yard. It is the most obnoxious thing $49.99 can buy. It only took 30 minutes to setup, probably would of been less if the wind wasn't fighting me the whole time. Between the neighborhood kids and the wind I give it a 50/50 chance of surviving through christmas.

A followup to the last post, the sticker shock of Alienware gave me a new idea: Myroneware. To answer your question: yes I was slightly intoxicated.

They just look so cool! Unfortunately, they also cost alot as well. Although, the Alienware Grey model can be configured to be affordable, so I was tempted. I spent the better part of an hour researching other computers, and found that they actually aren't that expensive for what you get. Their low-end is actually pretty high-end compared to other offerings. Luckily, all the research wore off my excitement and I realized my 933Mhz PIII w/ 512MB RAM is more than ample for the stuff I do. I think I'll observe Buy Nothing Day this year to celibrate my will power.

Tonight I had my speech class, where I gave a speech on the importance of fuel economy, and saving gas. I covered the methods to increase fuel economy on your current car (driving 65mph or less, anticipating stops, regular maintenance) as well as keeping fuel economy in mind when purchasing a new car. A lot of people were surprised at how much an SUV costs to operate, so hopefully I got a few to rethink their vehicle choice. If interested, you can download it. I also heard a speech on Tatoos by a girl in the class. She insisted that Tattoos are evil and should be eradicated from your body. I'm not sure if she was just fishing for a topic, but I am very glad I got mine and would never get it removed. I didn't get a chance to ask her why she chose that topic.

I was recently browsing Memepool and came across a link to BBSMates. Before the Internet got big, I was fortunate enough to be involved in BBS'ing. It involved dialing computers that others programmed to pick up the phone and talk with you. More often than not, a SysOp (owner of the computer) would be online and chat with you. Many late nights were passed in high school talking with other sysops, using message boards, and playing "door games." Once you found the number to one BBS, you could usually find the others in your area code fairly easy. As a result, a large group of BBS'ers formed between boards, and we would often go "BBS Bowling" where we could meet everyone that we talked to on the computer. Sort of a local Internet, before the internet. Much more personal, and much more fun. Alas, the advent of the World Wide Web signaled the demise of the BBS, but thanks to BBSMates we can find some kind of closure that we never had when all the computers stopped answering. I added my old BBS that I ran (Nuclear Meltdown) and also added myself as a "member" to the ones I remembered logging on to. BBS'ing will never come back the way it was, but like myself, it launched many computer professionals into their career.

Tonight me and a group of friends all went Cosmic Bowling. The theory is to bowl with all the lights turned off, blacklights turned on, disco-lights rotating, and mid-80's music blaring. The reality is a group of your friends, most drunk, running after you when you're trying to bowl and either grabbing your butt, screaming obscenities, or trying to pull your pants down. Theory or reality, it's always fun. Especially when your bowling ball catches on fire in the buffing machine.

I have Robotics this semester, and today we finished up painting the board, adding the safety screen, and building a door. The goal is to have a simulated paint mixing robot. I built the paint dispensers and have all the "points" the robot will have to hit to dispense the paint. I managed to get some programming done, and felt pretty good about our progress till the lab proctor told us we only have one more week left (whoops). Oh well, at least it was fun up to this point.
