Having received my free GoPro camera thanks to my
Focus ST purchase, it was time to put it to good use. I quickly discovered my version (GoPro 2) had no preview capability, so it was off to eBay for a $30 WiFi Backpack and the GoPro app which works amazingly well. After connecting to the GoPro wifi and adjusting the camera for maximum awesome, it was time to record the deluge of Detroit for all to enjoy. I can now point to a 20 minute nail-biting video of what it's like on my daily escape from Detroit when people ask how hardcore 8-mile is.
More than a year ago, I benchmarked my collection of WP7 phones. Since then, I've been growing my crack habit and now have a total of 11 dummy display phones, and 5 actual phones. Fortunately, I've come to my senses and sold Lisa's old Samsung Focus Flash along with the Lumia 520 I picked up for $150 (now that I have it I know why it's only $150). Before they departed, I created an updated benchmark to help me feel better about my loss. I was shocked to find the Lumia 520 had the fastest GPU before remembering it only renders at 800x480 instead of the 1280x720 the 8X chugs through. The Trophy is still the saddest Gen1 hardware, with the Flash/900/800 all running almost identical thanks to fairly identical chipsets. With my Lumia 928 just around the corner, another fanboy orgy post is sure to follow soon.
With only minor prompting, Lila was able to successfully give Lisa all three mothers day gifts between tantrums. After heading to church there was more tantrums of course, but she was strong when it counted. The terrible twos are in full effect, and Lila is taking every opportunity to remind us, but distraction and tickling are still an effective defense. Also that fancy dress Lila has on was from Salvation Army which I plan to tell all her friends the day she decides to start wearing designer clothes.
News of the Zoo adventure soon spread to Lisa, who was clearly jealous of our zooventure and sad she missed out on all of Lilas powerful tantrums. As such, she demanded a visit to the Kelleys whereupon a whimsical bike ride resulted in Lila playing chicken with a train, finding Jimmy Hoffa, and learning what it's like to be a troll. Bored of such trivial things, we concluded with a dog walk and some ice cream from a fancy make-your-own toppings store. Also I apparently went to an arcade sometime after so those photos are there as well.
Our first trip to the zoo this year was uneventful, with the requisite peacock chase and merri-go-round. A followup trip with the Senator family resulted in more shenanigans thanks to an additional toddler and the unpredictible fits of Lila, including the apex fit when the face painter took back her mirror before Lila was done looking at the artwork. I made certain to use the same diaper changing area I had seen a lesbian couple use on our first visit, but was still unable to visit the famous prarie dog area with the bubble for kids to poke their heads in. I swear the next visit it shall be done!
This morning I awoke to 45° and a mission to ride my new motorcycle to work.
The glorious fuel injection laughed at the cold morning, and started right up without any choking or warming up required. The instant on feeling kept me
warm for about 15 minutes at which point I started to lose feeling in my neck. Fortunately being only 20 miles into my 500 mile break-in period, I couldn't exceed 45mph
so I retained enough heat to make it to work alive. The ride home was worth the morning torture, a 65° joyride. To celebrate, I decided to order my first pizza through the Xbox.
Despite my very specific request that Lisa only allow Y chromosone carriers into her eggs, once again I am having a daughter.
Clearly she does not want me to have a son, knowing I will love whatever comes out of her vagina unconditionally.
I can already see my life 16 years from now, with 16 and 18 year old daugters. Hopefully by then we live in a police state and
I'll be able to monitor every minute of their lives, sending a jolt of electricity to their communication implants when they get
close to a boy.
Bring your kid to work day is still 10 days out, but since Lila is under 6 she doesn't qualify. To protest, I decided to
bring her today instead, when the bring your kid to work day officials were least expecting it. A tour of my office, the giant catbox of Detroit and the street meat vendors was sufficient to convince her
to stay in school and get a better job than me.
After being talked into Defiance by several people at work, I was disappointed to find the same old rivalry preventing a cross-platform experience. Rumor has it
the PC, Xbox and PS3 instances of the game are seperated by a simple firewall at the request of those involved. Regardless, the game is enjoyable enough to get past the false hope. The most
interesting thing I've found so far however, is an in-game patching system. Instead of waiting on the painfully slow Xbox certification process to get updates, Trion somehow
got MS to buy into a self-contained system that bypasses them completely. The result is almost daily updates similar to what PC MMO players have enjoyed forever. This gives me hope for the next Xbox
being more open to game developers and less restrictive (translating into more games and more cheevos!)
