Today was a work sponsored team building event that just so happened to be a Tigers baseball game. Rather than enjoy the game and shout what for at the opposing team, I took the opportunity to play with my $10
eBay zoom lens and the various Nokia camera apps on my phone.
The result was enjoyable, and passed the time quite well. The free food was also a nice
bonus, and of course Ron showed up because why wouldn't he. I found myself in the strange position of rooting for a sports team in the 9th inning when the Tigers were down 2 runs. They managed to come back with a 3 run home run
and everyone went nuts of course. I celebrated by making sure I grabbed one final free Mountain Dew for the road.
Bored with her teaset, Lila descended into my lair and demanded she hold the Xbox controller. I decided Minecraft was right up her alley since I already had all the cheevos and no longer cared about
my progress on my default world. Amazingly, she figured out the dual-stick navigation relatively quickly and was soon moving around on her own. I asked her to go different directions and she was able to
in the general direction I requested. Excited my daughter could finally operate the most time intensive thing in my life, she promptly grew bored and demanded I read her a book.
I took that as a good sign.
With the end of summer fast approaching, I decided it was time to
use one of Lisas friends for their pool membership.
I promise myself a trip to the beach at least once a summer, and since it looks like I won't be able to keep that promise this year, I can pretend this counted. Upon entering the pool, I was in
shock after learning it featured a diving board. I was convinced they had all gone extinct with our great litigious society forcing them out of all insurance plans. I confirmed with the lifeguard
that flips and dives were in fact allowed, and proceeded to fill my stomach with burgers and hot dogs. Once I was full enough to guarantee stomach problems, I did my first diving board flip in
at least 10 years. Lila was highly entertained, so I proceeded to do 2 more before landing one square on my back, resulting in some pool-wide entertainment. Undeterred, I continued with
cannonballs and dives, before returning for a few more flips. Lila became bored quickly, so we moved to a game where she threw diving rings and laughed while I scrambled after them and put them back on her head.
After hearing
Xbox One was on display at Microsoft stores, I of course planned a trip
today with Lila to introduce her to the device that will make her fatherless for several months. After taking the standard
creepy shot and being
asked to pre-order several times, we explored the rest of the mall including the moving walkway where I gave her a
taste of what to expect once it offically launches in November.
My quest for a single device to do everything got closer to reality today when I
hacked my access badge into my phone case.
Sadly, HID won't allow any apps to copy their cards and use built-in NFC antennas because security, but this works just as well.
With Verizon being jerks and blocking all wireless payment apps but their own
ISIS wallet, it will probably be some time before I can replace my wallet.
My dream of one day losing my phone and being unable to survive in any way is still alive though, with payment and car keys my only remaining pieces of the puzzle.
Way back in
2004, I went to get measured for a wedding. While I thought I posted my measurements again for another wedding, I can't seem to find
any others. It's probably for the best, as it would only further prove how fat I've become. My latest measurements are:
Coat |
Size: 48 R |
Over Arm: 52 |
Under Arm: 38 |
Trousers |
Waist: 38 |
Outseam: 44.5 |
Shirt |
Neck: 16.5 |
Sleeve: 37 |

The elusive group messaging feature, present on my original WP7 HTC Trophy and all AT&T WP8 phones finally arrived on my Lumia 928 today with the
GDR2 update.
The "peek" feature is
pretty cool, and the pro camera apps I now have access to are also useful, but beyond those not much improvement.
Everything will be glorious in
GDR3 of course, at least until it release at which point
GDR4 becomes the savior of all things Windows Phone.
After the
Need for Speed filming wrapped up, Transformers 4
began building a pretty elaborate set near Grand Circus Park.
I've spent the last several lunch hours taking my hipster bike down to get yelled at by security guards and take the occasional photo of their progress.
I also trademarked the practice of taking the people mover for
video tours, but this proved impossible to enforce
as other fans quickly copied my original and exclusive idea. Hopefully Mark Wahlberg can prevent the film from becoming a bomb, but at least I now know first hand the Chinatown scenes will be pretty epic.
Having made several trips to the zoo already this year, one might wonder what I could possibly do differently this time. The answer is, accomplish my mission of the prarie dog experience.
Despite our frequent trips, Lila consistently runs out of gas before making it to the section of the zoo where the prarie dogs are. That's why this visit I made a beeline for them, ignoring
all the tempting adventures on the way. After
fulfilling my dream, I did not feel the
sense of accomplishment I was hoping for, and Lila was not nearly as excited as I'd hoped. My goal achieved, we continued on the zoo adventure until rain decided to dump out of the sky cutting our visit short.
Little did I know
way back when that Lisa would be carrying my second baby on her birthday today.
From a smoking, drinking party girl to her current form of super mom, It's nice to pause and reflect on all the adventures we've had together.
I'm also reflecting on what I did what that power glove, I forgot I had one and it's awesome!
