With my unwilling participation in Mass Effect 3 due to peer pressure (the cheevo per hour rating was unacceptably low on ME1 and ME2), I've found the CPH to be surprisingly favorable. Add in the new co-op multiplayer and I can give the game a quality rating. Lastnight team awesomesauce was in full effect and I'm well on my way to the "Veteran" achievement of killing 5000 "things" or roughly the population of Glendive, Montana
Having installed a
Motorola Signal Booster several years ago to help with my analog cable, I subsequently sold it when I
switched to OTA HD. Now that I'm
back on cable, I noticed my signal was
a bit low when compared to the
recommended levels. After cutting into my wall in an attempt to route a shorter cable I gave up and ordered the very same booster once again with
great success. The signal shot up 14.4 dBmV with the signal to noise also improving. I'm now well within the recommended signal strength and more importantly I've got a booster sucking power 24/7 to make up for crappy Brighthouse.
After a week of limbo at a previous transmission shop, I got tired of waiting and brought it to one that was actually interested in fixing my car. They even saved the bolt that smashed through my transmission as a memento, which will henceforth be known as "the $800 bolt." I also managed to slip the
keyed shift tower in during the rebuild which should handily outlast the car itself. The transmission shop informed me the bolt was designed to shear as colission testing found the test dummy would get hung up on the shifter, so the $800 bolt is in my posession now thanks to this safety feature.
Over 3 years ago I
completed Forza 3 and today I've
pulled a hat trick with Forza 4. I was the 303'd gamer to complete it out of 24,533 people who played it on True Achievements. What's amusing is my statement from the previous game that I'd sworn off working toward these kind of grind achievements. This time around took a solid 4 weeks of background driving at work, so if the next iteration follows that will be 2 months of grind. I'll swear it off now but clearly I don't have a good track record with predictions involving my sick addiction.
Words cannot describe the horrific feeling currently washing over me. My
lifes addiction is in jeopardy today, as reports of gamerscore going to zero are rampant. I dare not turn on my Xbox for fear of triggering the kill wipe on my account. It's times like today you realize how truly fragile life really is. Years of work gone in an instant, with no way to restore, I mourn for the fallen. Theirs is truly a sad turn of fortune, as I'm sure most will be forced to abandon achievement based gaming out of frustration in favor of spending time outside or with family. If this isn't fixed soon, it will truly be the end of times.
At almost 70° today it was time to let loose the baby into the great outdoors. Ecstatic to be outside, she promptly maxed out her duck waddle walk down the driveway. Unsure what to do with such a long stretch of flat surface, she stopped to take it all in before heading into the street. I cautioned her to watch for Morlocks but with such bright sun there was very little real danger. At only 22 lbs she's not exactly high up on the priority list either, for now.
The current tablet craze (both iOS and Android) has me feeling like a cranky old man. Between my phone and my laptop, I have all the sizes I need covered. Seeing an
HP Slate 500 on eBay for $200 though, I decided to take the plunge and see if it did something for me I wasn't expecting. Having tried the other tablets I thought Win7 might offer something more along my line of interest. While the OS was well adjusted for tablet (on screen keyboard, tilt, etc) I found myself defaulting to my phone before reaching for it. The consumer preview of Windows 8 provided better eye candy, and a better on screen keyboard but again fell by the side when in competition with my phone. When Lisa still preferred her phone over the tablet for reading kindle books I knew it was time to sell it. The only one who
really got excited about it was Lila, but to be fair she also gets excited about cardboard boxes. I might try again when Windows 8 tablets are out, as this one
wasn't a spectacular performer but for now I'm fine being a cranky old man.
With my dad out of town and Lisa sick enough to request a trip to the emergency room, Lila had no place to go. After driving home to drop off Lisa, she tagged along with me back to work where she was
instantly cooed over and abducted for almost an hour. Who knew free babysitting was so easy to find. She eventually came back to me and after 5 minutes of crawling I learned the floor at work is more disgusting than I ever imagined. She spent the rest of the day in her playpen with only a few complaints toward the end, a successful first day at work.
With the temperature finally reaching my minimum 50° requirement, it was time to activate the motorcycle. Aversive to rush hour highway traffic, I decided to take Grand River all the way to Detroit which was an adventure in itself. Burned out and abandoned buildings were rampant, with little to no evidence of commerce existing beyond Southfield freeway. Aside from the view, the traffic lights were not prohibitive and I didn't hear a single gunshot or witness any murders to my surprise, plus it was only 5 minutes longer than my typical commute. I managed to confuse the parking structure management who eventually told me to just pull into an electric car spot while they decided my fate. Having never heard their decision I plan to continue parking there.
I wasn't going to do it, but
this deal forced my hand. I'm now on the Mass Effect bandwagon despite having skipped the first and second installment. I'm told the multiplayer is some quality 4 player co-op and I'm hoping it’s worth the price in case I can’t stand the single player.
