I'm officially official for
E3 this year. Having never attended before (and probably never again) I'm quite excited. I plan to get kicked out by the second day after harassing every major Xbox representative at which point I'll just loiter around the entrance screaming Xbox to everyone that walks by. I'm hoping for an announcement for the next Xbox (Nintendo already confirmed they are announcing) but I'm not holding my breath, they're making too much money on the current one. I'm pretty sure native 3D support will be announced, but that's not nearly as exciting. At least I'll be able to touch Major Nelson at some point, and that's worth a trip right there.
Lila was
baptized today by her grandfather, and for once I did not burst into flame upon entering the church. I can only assume Lisa made some deal for me before entering, or wearing a full suit successfully camoflauged me. Either way she is now saved, so she'll be with her mother after the rapture. That means I can dedicate 100% of my time to post-rapture Xbox until the end of days.
For the last month, backups from all computers except two have been extremely slow, taking multiple days to complete (over a gigabit network).
Netflix on my Media Center PC has also been exceptionally slow but the backup for that computer was normal speed. After reloading my home server and upgrading all NIC drivers I finally coorelated the fact that the two fast computers and the home server were on the same
Netgear GS608 Switch. The switch was able to talk to every computer connected to it at full speed, but my new Cisco router baffled it. A temporary change to the 16 port
LAN party switch fixed the problem, and a new
Cisco switch is already on order. Let this be a lesson: the GS608 is racist.
After being assigned babysitting duties by the woman today, Lila and I were on our own. She immediately demanded I play Xbox for several hours followed by a trip to Burger King. Being a good father, I obliged on both accounts but drew the line when she asked to drive. I assured her she would inherit the Cougar just as soon as her feet could reach the pedals. Not satisfied, she tried a series of pulleys to work the pedals but finally conceded it just wasn't time yet.
After bending to the will of Lisa and her daily chore of watching TV all day, I activated a Netflix subscription of my very own. I previously used my dads account for free streaming to my computer and Xbox, but now we get actual movies on demand instead of hoping the one we want becomes available for download. The first movie shipped out in less than 2 days, but the second movie I get
this notice which is baffling. While I'm sure Skyline will be a waste of 120 minutes, it's interesting it's so bad it shipped itself back. Serious baby
is serious.
With PSN being down for over a week now, some great material is surfacing, like
this comic and
this one. By far my favorite so far is the
Kevin Butler parody which warms the cockles of my heart. Also of note: I'm not crossing my fingers that a similar fate won't happen to Xbox LIVE. I'd have some serious comeuppance if that were to happen.
While assisting
Ron with the emergence of his Cougar from my barn, but before winning a virtual shirt for a
Guiness World Record, Lisa informed me of a
gaggle of police forming in the new subdivision next to me. After the police tried to tell me I could not take their picture
they were less than willing to tell me what had happened, but after reading
this article I'm guessing it may be #4.
Portal 2 released today and fortunately I suckered enough people into buying the Xbox version to get a 4-way co-op session going tonight.
How do you do 4-way co-op on Portal 2? Start a party and pair off, then talk loudly over the other two people so nobody has any idea what's going on.
With the
Senator and
Ron distracted with
wife problems, James and I quickly passed them in progress and got 3/4 done before quitting. Graphics and gameplay are unquestionably superior, and the
co-op mode is unbeatable. I of course did the obligatory
apparel obsession and when combined with Stavos' mug
formed the ultimate Portal nerd.
The now annual
Morlock Boat Launch was restricted to local roads this year after last years highway debacle.
The Morlock also decided to pay for a seasonal slip, meaning this was the only launch event of the year (and possibly ever, if he finds storage).
It's a smart move for the Morlock, by not depending on me for transportation he can sneak off and harpoon Eloi from the boat without alerting me to his whereabouts.
It was, of course, one of the windiest days of the year, and after the boat almost went adrift during launch, then crushed a few mooring poles, we finally made it to the slip mostly undamaged.

Sick of my two-tub sink and crappy faucet, I finally decided to upgrade to a single-tub with the cheapest faucet I could find. The entire procedure took place during a Star Trek: TNG marathon, so now I'll always think of Star Trek when I look at my sink. After discovering how easy it was to remove the old sink, I discovered the joys of pressure fittings and not-quite-long enough feed lines. 2 hours later the new sink was in and Star Trek was still on.
