BlogAfter bending to the will of Lisa and her daily chore of watching TV all day, I activated a Netflix subscription of my very own. I previously used my dads account for free streaming to my computer and Xbox, but now we get actual movies on demand instead of hoping the one we want becomes available for download. The first movie shipped out in less than 2 days, but the second movie I get
this notice which is baffling. While I'm sure Skyline will be a waste of 120 minutes, it's interesting it's so bad it shipped itself back. Serious baby
is serious.
With PSN being down for over a week now, some great material is surfacing, like
this comic and
this one. By far my favorite so far is the
Kevin Butler parody which warms the cockles of my heart. Also of note: I'm not crossing my fingers that a similar fate won't happen to Xbox LIVE. I'd have some serious comeuppance if that were to happen.
While assisting
Ron with the emergence of his Cougar from my barn, but before winning a virtual shirt for a
Guiness World Record, Lisa informed me of a
gaggle of police forming in the new subdivision next to me. After the police tried to tell me I could not take their picture
they were less than willing to tell me what had happened, but after reading
this article I'm guessing it may be #4.

Portal 2 released today and fortunately I suckered enough people into buying the Xbox version to get a 4-way co-op session going tonight.
How do you do 4-way co-op on Portal 2? Start a party and pair off, then talk loudly over the other two people so nobody has any idea what's going on.
With the
Senator and
Ron distracted with
wife problems, James and I quickly passed them in progress and got 3/4 done before quitting. Graphics and gameplay are unquestionably superior, and the
co-op mode is unbeatable. I of course did the obligatory
apparel obsession and when combined with Stavos' mug
formed the ultimate Portal nerd.

The now annual
Morlock Boat Launch was restricted to local roads this year after last years highway debacle.
The Morlock also decided to pay for a seasonal slip, meaning this was the only launch event of the year (and possibly ever, if he finds storage).
It's a smart move for the Morlock, by not depending on me for transportation he can sneak off and harpoon Eloi from the boat without alerting me to his whereabouts.
It was, of course, one of the windiest days of the year, and after the boat almost went adrift during launch, then crushed a few mooring poles, we finally made it to the slip mostly undamaged.

Sick of my two-tub sink and crappy faucet, I finally decided to upgrade to a single-tub with the cheapest faucet I could find. The entire procedure took place during a Star Trek: TNG marathon, so now I'll always think of Star Trek when I look at my sink. After discovering how easy it was to remove the old sink, I discovered the joys of pressure fittings and not-quite-long enough feed lines. 2 hours later the new sink was in and Star Trek was still on.
A surprise 80° day arrived today, which just happened to be the same day we arranged for my mom to babysit. I immediately delayed our movie plans to take advantage of
the weather and had a picnic at hoop and stick park, frolicking in the sunshine around the waterfall and goose poop.
My
recent supply of decaf Mountain Dew has apparently dried up, as I can no longer find it in the local grocery stores. Too lazy to restart the Canadian exchange, I've been trying substitute beverages with similar taste but less sugar/caffeine. First up is "
Rocky Mist" from Meijer. It's only two ingredients off from Mountain Dew and half the sugar. We'll see how long this can tickle my fancy.

Windows Home Server 2011 released yesterday to MSDN and as expected I upgraded that night. By upgrade I mean a fresh install and copy of the entire 3TB worth of data on my old server (which took all night). Now that I've achieved the latest and greatest, my post-upgrade excitement crash is greater than usual. I quickly discovered my Windows Server 2003 machine is no longer supported for backup, and not one of the machines I added was able to perform a successful backup. Plus the
removal of drive extender means I have to fit all my videos on a single drive, which just barely fit on my new 2TB. Not even a full day after my upgrade, I'm back to the original Home Server which works just fine. I declare WHS 2011 a downgrade, as it removes functionality and from what I could tell added nothing spectacular in return.
Ashamed of my presence on Facebook, I occasionally swear off the time suck social site for an entire day just to assure myself I can do it. Inevitably, someone gets wind of my goal and tries to sabotage it. After John announced my plans, the senator took it upon himself to be the instigator. While I survived the various link ruse attempts, I was foiled when he sent me a photo of facebook via MMS on my phone.
