With my Cougar bucking between 1k-2k RPM occasionally, I scoured the internet for possible causes and found a magical sensor called the Delta Pressure Feedback for EGR sensor (DPFE). It measures a drop in intake pressure that is caused by the Exhaust Gas Recycle valve that opens to allow unburned fuel in the exhaust to cycle back into the engine. The purpose is to prevent unburned gas from making it's way into the environment. The DPFE is a check sensor for this EGR, so it's basically a hippie enforcement sensor. When this goes bad, bucking is a typical side effect. Unfortunately this wasn't causing my problem, but it was a weird enough sensor to share with the world.

 | So when you mean "bucking" the car actually does a wheelie and lifts up but in your case since your car is front wheel drive it bucks backwards? Stavos |
 | Been there, done that with the sensor as well. It was tripping the CEL in the silver Cougar so I ripped one out of a carcass that Dan Hamill had in London and it seemed to fix it temporarily but I got to take out the UIM and all the other intake components and clean them out good.  | I had mine replaced three years ago. The 'check engine' light came on, took it to the dealership, and was replaced under warranty. i didn't have to pay for it, and it only took a few minutes. Silvercup |
