01-07-2007 Half Mast Order Abused?

Granholm recently ordered all U.S. Flags in Michigan to be flown half-staff whenever a Michigan serviceman is killed. Debate about her authority to do so aside, the last order resulted in 6 straight days of half-staff flag days. This means for an entire week, the state was in mourning. While I'm certainly in no position to dictate the proper respect for servicemen killed in war, I can't imagine a patriotic soldier desiring a week of mourning. It gives me the impression that we are a depressed country, focused entirely on our losses and not our accomplishments. To me, flying the flag at full staff is a statement of pride and confidence. Half-staff should be reserved for major tragedies where the entire country is in mourning, not for local tragedies that will be mourned regardless of flag positioning.

Wow I'm so glad that everyone had to vote her back in office so she could think of these great ideas. Who cares about the economy and housing issues were having in Michigan, I know lets lower the flags! ugh! She need to cut that mole off and quit... Wait she needs to quit first then cut the mole off, then go back to her home country.

I was sure after people realized we were the only state that's suffering like we have been that she would surely not be reelected. But the uninformed majority wins, yeah for people voting party lines (rolls eyes). I hate that DeVos had laid out an entire plan to fix Michigan, and Granholm had nothing, yet SHE got reelected. bleh... And as a former service-member I can say that NO Marine would want the country to mourn for that long. Hell, most Marines would say the best way to mourn them would involve massive carpet bombing of a few countries... ;)
