The imperfect Earth, with it's snobbish rotation, scoffs at our proper time keepeing. Instead of rotating in a consistant manner, it has the nerve to slow down. We just quietly add an extra second every 4 years or so depending on the Earths mood. Of course the slowing may mean the earth will completely stop in a billion or so years. This would extend the day to 6 months instead of 24 hours possibly creating two distinct nomadic societies that constantly travel the earth to either avoid or remain in the light. Your first thought might be Morlock and Eloi but you would be wrong! The correct future non-rotating earth societies would be vampires lead by Riddick, and clones of Wesley Snipes lead by Blade. Throw some Waterworld references in as well since they seemed to be travelling a lot in that movie. Plus Waterworld sucked, so you'll get an idea of how 6 months of darkness feels. Or you could just move to Michigan and find out first hand.
