After months of thinking about it, I finally found a good enough deal to go through with my dream of a terabyte. And yes, it uses perpendicular recording. Between my server, main computer and media machine I probably had more than a terabyte of storage already, but now I have it all on one (spanned) drive. It feels good to throw 30 gigs at a drive and barely see it register at all. Having that same amount taken up by partition information (by each drive) is disappointing though. Of my two 400GB drives and 320GB drive I only get 1,044GB of the 1,120GB available as usable space, even with the allocation size set to the 4096 maximum. I'm sure in less than a year terabytes will become common, but for now I can stick my tongue out at (most of) you while I figure out exactly what I'm going to do with it.
