Today I played Starcraft, a game I haven't played in a long time. Myself and about 4 others would play pretty much daily after work almost 3 years ago, sometimes playing till 2:00am when we had to be at work at 9:00am the next day. We all got fairly good and wound up getting bored after mastering it. Eventually, we stopped playing and everyone but me who used to play quit, got let go, or was fired. We had some good times together, but all things change. Yesterday, a current co-worker, Mike Relova, challenged me to a game in it. Remembering how good I thought I was I taunted him all yesterday and today. When it finally came time to play he embarassed me in it. Thinking I figured out his strategy I challenged him again and was beaten even worse! I was dethroned in a game I used to play religiously. After I got over myself, we played co-operatively against the computer and I was amazed. Here was someone who took it to the next level. It was no longer a game, but a science of maximizing resources, production, and attack strategies. Now when I play him I expect to lose, but see how long I can last before utter destruction.
