BlogFrom 1:07pm through 2:42pm today this server was offline. Initially suspecting a power outage I found that the
webcam and
weather station had both continued recording through the outage. According to
Brighthouse the outage was caused by my cable modem "experiencing issues with the cable network. Subscribers in the affected area(s) may experience a loss of connectivity, usually indicated by flashing modem lights and/or a loss of video service." So that cleared it up for me.
A recent conversation with
Enorym brought this question up. Only
the public knows the real answer.

Today was the season opener of
Detroit SCCA Solo racing. Having recently upgraded my
Cougar with a limited slip differential and a sweet suspension setup I was excited to see what the difference would be. I quickly learned the 80% driver 20% car rule was still in full effect, as my car was more than willing to go where I told it, but I didn't always tell it the right place to be. Despite my lack of experience, the car was decidedly more stable in the slaloms and sharp turns, and I was actually able to accelerate out of turns rather than perform one-wheel-wonder shows. Fortunately Lisa showed up for my fourth run and told me she only dated men who could win their respective SCCA Solo class, which resulted in my best run of the day. It's unclear if Lisa will leave me or not as results have not yet been posted, but I feel like I have a solid fighting chance. I might be able to convince her to give me the rest of the year if I didn't win this time, but her passion for dating only the best is a great motivator.
Here are pics (along with Ron's fence I built Yesterday)
Lisa and I decided to practice some Canoeing in preperation for the coming $5/gallon gas prices. It's a well known fact that Canoe's will replace cars when the time is right and it's a good idea to have the skill ready. Afterwards was
Joseph's Cinqo de Mayo party with ample amounts of cheap Mexican beer and "Daddy Yankee" music. Despite the fact that nobody knew the actual meaning of Cinqo de Mayo, we
still managed to have a great time.
About a week ago my co-workers became bored and decided to draw a face on the back of my bald head. Bored myself, I let the masterpiece take shape. You can
watch the transformation from a bald head with sunglasses to the intricate (and sexy) face it ultimately became. After showing it off at a local bar I went to Lisa's to discover the face was as temporary as her anger once it washed off.
Today I did some yardwork and remembered the
Stavos method of shrub removal, so I
copied his technique and it was as enjoyable as I had imagined. Plus my sister graduated! Congratulations Holly! Also had a
pretty good turnout at the Cougar meet on Saturday. Finally, Lisa is
looking at Condos.
After selling my
Suzuki Katana 600 last winter due to
frequent breakdowns and no-starts (despite my best efforts at cleaning every internal component on the bike) I decided it was again time to own a two-wheeled motorized form of transportation. Since I never tapped into the full potential of my 600 I decided to go cheap and get a 250 engine despite 90% of the people I associate with telling me 250 is nowhere near enough power. The
Kawasaki Ninja 250R retails for $2999 and from reviews is the only 250 considered "quick." I found a used 2004 model for $2200 and was expecting the bike to crawl along at semi-truck acceleration during the test drive. I was surprised to find it pulling pretty hard at 7,000RPM and higher, more than sufficient to get me ahead of any traffic around me. Having proven to myself it was enough power I bought it with cold hard cash.
My friend at work is obsessed with
Yacht Rock lately and I'm afraid I've caught his fever. The people who made this series have more time on their hands than me, and that makes me jealous, but the jealousy is quickly smothered with laughter. The one-liners per-episode count is higher than any other web video I've seen.
After
6 months of an engine-less
Cougar my friends and I got it
back in and ready to go Sunday, with a
successful startup today. By far the most involved automotive undertaking I've attempted yet, I could never have done it without the help of those involved, especially
Mark and Jason. The result is a brand new unbreakable transmission featuring a Quaife LSD and a bonus prize of new Koni/Eibach performance suspension. I won't realize the improvements until after the agonizing 500 mile clutch break-in period but the lower stance and smooth shifting already has me all warm and giddy. Naturally the entire event was well documented with a
removal timelapse and an
install timelapse combined to create the
ultimate video. Look for the DVD from
Stavos in stores soon.
While receiving medical care from Lisa lastnight, Morlock Prime calls to inform me that a beeping noise had interrupted his defecation. Fearing it was an exploding computer, he ran to the server room and found my water heater dripping water onto the floor, and the water detector complaining about it. Realizing my water heater had finally gone, I turned off the main supply valve, drained the tank, and went back to bed. Morlock Prime completed his defecation. This afternoon, after purchasing the most efficient water heater my local Home Depot had to offer, we began the
epic adventure of replacing my water heater.
Stavos,
Joseph and my Dad successfully removed the old unit and maneuvered the new one into place before realizing I suck horribly at
sweat welding. Consequently I could not get a water-tight seal for the life of me. However, after getting two estimates each over $200 to sweat weld for me I was sufficiently motivated to restock with better supplies and make a final go of it. So far my last attempt is holding water and hot water once again flows freely.
