Today at work, while I was being a happy coder, I looked outside the window and saw
this awesome sight. The depressing gray clouds had cleared enough to let the last light of the sunset in, creating a surreal world. The entire day was cloudy and gray, but this 5 minute display was worth the wait. I just wish every winter day would end like this.
Yesterday I fixed my countertop which was unsupported after the dishwasher install. Then I put new hardware in the toilet so it not only isn't leaking anymore, but also refills after every flush. Then I cleaned and organized the house, and sealed the utility room windows with vinyl. Today my
girlfriend and I built a
wine rack and
storage bin for the kitchen and storage room, respectively. These are in addition to the
storage shelving we built two weekends ago. A busy weekend, but the organization helps me cope with my obsessive compulsive disorder better.
Tonight is the last night for "
Late Night Gnome Cam." The Day/Night Camera I'm using is not very happy with cold temperatures. It has a "melting effect" when it gets below zero that looks cool, but probably isn't good for the camera. So, in the interest of maximum camera life, I'm retiring it for the winter and going back to the old XCam version. Once the weather goes back to a reasonable temperature you'll once again be able to see in the dark.
Today I went to Pizza Hut for lunch with Duane while he dropped off his Subaru for service (again). On the way back, we saw a
car hauler hauling state police cars. In retrospect, there's nothing odd about this, but at the time it was hilarious. I was fortunate enough to have my camera so I was able to
capture the moment.
Tonight around 8:01pm, the earth completely blocked the sun from the moon. For a few seconds, the moon was entirely black. Then, as the moon continued it's orbit, it slowly emerged from the eclipse.
Here is a photo I took shortly afterwards. I took a few more as the moon got brighter, but they
didn't turn out well.
Duane was so excited about the eclipse that him and Gina had me over for dinner. Ok, so he wasn't all fired up about the eclipse, but he did
have me over for dinner.
Today the building I work at had a
fire drill which turned out more exciting than anticipated due primarily to the antics of the "fire marshals" which were essentially a comedy routine. After the drill,
Duane and I went to Tubbies for lunch, and I finally got a
picture of me sitting on the dolphin statue outside the resturant. Quite possibly the most pointless sculpture I know of, it was something that had to be done.
Tonight I got home and was greeted with 70 degree weather. I took the opportunity to mow my yard free of leaves, (attempted to) fix my exhaust on my
Cougar, and replaced the headlights on my S10. By this time it was 7:00pm and still beautiful outside! Unwilling to be inside, I walked down to
Duane and Gina's stopping at Donut Town on the way. Unfortunately, they were both sick and not quite as excited about the weather as I was. Nonetheless, I was handed a bottle of wine for my visit, and had a relaxing walk back. Now I get home and see it will be snowing this Friday. Oh well, at least I had one last day of summer.
My ISP again had an undisclosed problem with connectivity around 10:00am this morning. When the problem was fixed, my cable modem wasn't able to reset itself and get back online. Unfortunately I wasn't able to get home until 9:30pm, so the entire site was down for 11.5 hours. Everything is again operational after a simple power cycle of the modem. Ridiculous.
