girlfriend and I went to the
Great Lakes Bat Festival at Cranbrook. They had bat roosts, bat shows, and of course, bat merchandise. In addition to all the bats we walked around the museum and saw "Mars and the Worlds Beyond" in the planetarium, which only served to ignite my need for a powerful telescope. Fortunately
Stavos already has one so now I just need to steal it and I'm all set. The visit was topped off by an
animated T-rex display that was pretty well done.
Even though the weather did not approve, our
bonfire went ahead as planned. After the better part of an hour lighting newspaper and cardboard, we finally got enough wood going to sustain it. Eventually the rain also let up and there was much rejoicing. Many burned hot dogs and under-done burgers completed the event.
Next time somebody asks you to create something in less time than humanly possible, tell them this:
"Nine women can't make a baby in one month."
As
previously mentioned, I hate Honda's. However, my mom needed to borrow my truck since she is moving into a new house, so I swapped with her. I was planning on driving my
Cougar to work today, but since it might rain I figured I'd take the uninspired machine. To be fair, it is a hybrid-electric, which I have to admit is cool, but it's still a Honda. I just wanted to make it perfectly clear that I haven't gone insane, just temporarily.
Myrone left today for California. I helped him pack his U-haul and gave him a hug that put me under question. Always willing to lend a hand, he helped me get my
Cougar to where it is now more than anyone else, including ground effects and my
supercharger. He was always willing to tag along for car shows and autocross events, and stopped by to make me laugh from time to time. I'll miss his random visits and unique sense of humor. While we'll still talk and chat online, life will be a little less interesting without Myrone nearby. Good luck in California, and thanks for being such a great friend, both now and in the future.
Myrone has been gone for:
After 4 weeks, I finally got my UPS battery replacement. I'm once again safe from the whims of the electrical company (at least for 78 minutes at a time). Now I can safely predict a zero-power outage record from them lasting at least 5 years (lifespan of the batteries). The old ones are being shipped to the recyling center with good lucks and well wishings.
Just got back from
Cougarfest 2003. I went with two of my friends and a bunch of fellow Cougar owners. Friday we went to the beach, Saturday I ran the event, then went to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge. Sunday I drove back 14 gruelling hours.
Here are photos from the event. Initially doomed to failure due to poor planning, I think it turned out to be one of the best Cougarfest's yet. Definately looking forward to next year.
Today I had Jury Selection for Wayne County Courts. I drove down to Detroit, missed two exits, and finally arrived only 10 minutes late. Once there, not more than an hour passed and I was called into a murder case. I told them I was a web engineer, single, with a B.S. I also told them I listen to police band radio and my uncle is a parole officer. Apparently that was too much for the defense since he said "The defense would like to thank and excuse Juror number 13." It was for the best since I have Cougarfest tomorrow and being selected would have kept me away.
Today my dad, girlfriend and I ripped out the strip of weeds next to my approach and replaced it with rock. I wound up making two trips with half a square yard of rock in my S10 pickup. The weight turned it into a low-rider which was pretty cool (see
webcam). Now instead of "yucko" plants dominating my driveway I have a nice reddish strip of rock. I also managed to paint half my front chain-link fence. I probably inhaled enough aluminum paint to get me high for a week in the process. Next time I think I'll get a mask to avoid becoming "metal man."
07/11/2003: 06:03 am - Cable modem connectivity intermittent
Road Runner appears to be having more connectivity issues today. I plan to get my line checked soon if I don't see any "scheduled maintenance" this time. For over a year I've had reliable service and now suddenly every other day it's out. I'm hoping it's just a result of the storms and not a long-term trend.
