BlogAfter my 2 week vacation in Florida I've realized how much television has become my default time killer. I've also realized I watch a heck of a lot of it. I'm not just talking the occasional episode of "Pokemon" but movies and Discovery/TLC as well. Since I'm heavily addicted to this drug along with the rest of the industrialized world, I've decided to make a small personal stand. I refuse to watch anything emitting from a cathode-ray tube with a tuner attached. This of course means I'll most likely default to more computer time so I'm also limiting my computer time to basic email and updates. Of course work is exempt or I'd quickly have no job. I'm not really trying to make any statement, just prove to myself that I can do if if I want to. I'm guessing my "to-do" list around the house will get checked off faster than normal as well. Wish me luck, and unless your name is Tim, feel free to join me on my quest.
I was on Vacation from 06/01/03 until today. During my adventure I visited my grandparents in
Illinois and my friend InternetMenace in
Florida. I came back with a bad sunburn but feeling relaxed. A good two week recharge.
6/4/2003: 10:08 pm - Server experienced a power outage.
6/4/2003: 10:43 pm - UPS reports only 5 minutes of remaining power and performs a server shutdown.
6/4/2003: 03:19 am - Power was restored to the UPS and the server was brought back online.
Unfortunately I was away from my house for over two weeks during this event, so
blacknova updates and
webcam captures did not occur until after my
friend was able to login and restart these processes on
6/10/2003.
The
Compuware Arena SCCA Event went quite well. I ran a 41.491 second time, which was better than the average for the day. There was a turbocharged Contour SVT (same platform as the Cougar) all decked out so naturally I talked with him for quite some time. I can't wait till the next event!
On May 8th, 2003, the
Mars Global Surveyor took this shot of the Earth and Moon from the orbit of Mars. Carl Sagan's "Pale Blue Dot" comes to mind. Even from our close neighboring planet we look small and insignificant. What we take for granted every day is just a tiny speck of a lifeboat in the vast reaches of space.
More Information on this PhotoAfter ignoring my server for quite awhile, I went downstairs to apply the latest patches/updates. Before I restarted though, I checked the total uptime. I was surprised just how long it's been:
For years now I have admired him from afar, but now I can finally officially say that I LOVE
SLAPPY!For the past 3 days I have been sick. Not just a coughing sick, but the sensitive skin/burning fever/cold sweats sick. Each morning I spit up about a pound of phlem and feel totally exhausted getting up for a glass of water. My mistake was going into work on the morning of day 2 only to find my good friend the fever back with a vengence. This is the third time I've ignored previous experience and returned to the land of the living less than 100% recouperated. The human immune system gets very angry when you ignore it's warning signs. My punishment: the prison that is my house. The first day was alright because it was pissing rain, but these last two days it's bright and sunny out. Michigan likes to play a cruel joke with the sun: while it looks nice out, it's just cold enough so anyone sick that goes out to enjoy it will most surely die a terrible death of pnemonia. Thus I am locked in my house watching "Mad Max" and "Star Trek: TNG" episodes while the birds sing happy songs that taunt me to no end. With that, my sickly (and deranged?) rant is over. With all luck, I'll be back to 100% tomorrow and introducing the birds to my pellet gun.
My second AutoX event at the
Saginaw Regional Opener was awesome. Apparently the members in that area are geared more toward the rear-wheel drive platforms, so the track was faster than the detroit one. I hit almost 50mph in one stretch (in second gear) so I was able to use my supercharger to it's fullest potential. Unfortunately, my stock suspension didn't appreciate the opportunity as much as I did and wheel-hopped off a few seconds from each run. Now that I'm hooked on the sport, I'm looking at an Eibach/Koni combo to solve my suspension issues. I'm still not nearly good enough to have reached the limit of my car, but I feel the suspension will help tremendously in getting the power to the ground and reducing my skid in the corners.
AOL Instant Messenger is mine and my friends choice for our IM client. Occasionally, we use the "Warn" feature to try and kick each other off. The warning works as a percentage, and the closer to 100% you get the slower you can send messages. When you finally hit 100% if you get logged off you can't login again for the day. Normally we only get up to about 35% since you can only warn 3 times per user. Enorym, however, has taken the time to find out how to take advantage of the system. Below is what I found after returning from lunch. He had no less than 15 usernames to warn me with.
