 Dyno Days
I took my car to the dyno back in September. At that time, I was runnning a cone filter and SuperChip. I had three runs, and the best I pulled was 131hp. I would assume that it is putting down more than that.
My buddy from work took his Mustang the same day, and his best run was 301hp. Sad part is, he has a GT, with a Roush Stage 3 engine swap, long tube headers, no cats, Flowmaster exhaust, Jack Roush Special S/C pulley. He took the car to a different dyno two days later and pulled over 350hp, without changing anything. He left the shop with 390whp though (computer tuning).
Enough rambling, do you think the dyno was messed up? I know stock Cougars make 170hp at the crank, and I would assume I was around 190hp at the time, does 60hp seem like a normal loss...seems way too much to me. I was thinking more like 150-155hp. I have seen dyno sheets of stock I4's with 110-115whp. I would like to think I have more than 15whp on them.
What do you think?

you have to remember it's not engine hp it's RWHP for the mustang and not to sure about FWD cars but I know some HP is lost.
HP = horsepower to the Crank
RWHP = Rear Wheel Horsepower
with the Rear wheel Horsepower you generally loose 12% to 15% due to the drive train.
I'm not sure how much of hp is lost in FWD cars, maybe 5%? IDK
I have 350RWHP on my TA. To the crank it's 400hp, because with Fbody's it's a 15% drive train lose.
Then there's SAE and STD dyno test.
SAE isn't as accurate as STD.
STD accomadates your level to sea level, air pressure and tons of things so everyone has the same readings. SAE doesn't so someone in flordia could have the same exact car as you but dyno's more HP because he's closer to sealevel. Where we are 600ft above.
get it?

Yeah, I understand what you are saying. So, does it seem strang that I lost 50-60hp from the crank to wheels. I thought the losses were around 10%, not too sure what the acctual is, that would account for about 20hp loss through the drivetrain. I just can not understand why my losses were so much.
Yes, I know there is a difference from crank and wheel hp. I may have mislabled some of the numbers I listed before.
Either way, does it seem from the two cars, that the dyno was not too accurate?

oh yeah it's very possible that the dyno is way off, go try another place.

I plan on going this spring, cause I have since installed headers and a Magnaflow exhaust.

Stock 2.5 Cougars are 170HP at the Crank 140 at the Wheels for the MTX less for the ATX. What makes you think your was 190hp?

I was assuming 190hp at the crank with the chip and cold air intake. I was just a guess. The chip is supposed to be good for 17hp at the wheels, and the intake about 5hp at the crank. I was not saying stock it came with 190hp
